The Return of a Legendary CLAMP Classic
The highly anticipated new anime adaptation of CLAMP’s legendary masterpiece, Magic Knight Rayearth, finally made its grand debut on October 7, 2026. Bringing back the beloved fantasy-adventure after more than 30 years since the original 1994 TV series, the premiere episode titled “From Another World” has already taken the anime community by storm.
While fans were already thrilled to see Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu back on screen with stunning modern animation and a stellar new voice cast, it was a massive, unexpected musical surprise at the end of the episode that left long-time fans crying tears of joy.
“Yuzurenai Negai” Makes a Shocking Return!
During the climax of the first episode, as the three girls are summoned from Tokyo Tower to the mystical world of Cephiro, viewers were treated to a legendary tune. “Yuzurenai Negai” (Unyielding Wish), the iconic original 1994 opening theme song performed by Naomi Tamura, played as an insert song!
This legendary track is widely considered one of the greatest anime theme songs of the 1990s. Bringing it back 30 years later to kickstart the new era of Rayearth was a masterstroke that completely caught fans off guard.
Fans React: “It’s a Tear-Jerker!” and “Total Goosebumps!”
Social media exploded immediately after the broadcast, with both veteran fans and newcomers expressing their overwhelming excitement and emotional reactions:
- “Playing ‘Yuzurenai Negai’ at the end is just playing dirty! I couldn’t stop the tears!”
- “I got absolute goosebumps the moment the melody started playing. What an incredible way to honor the original.”
- “I never imagined I would be watching Rayearth in 2026, let alone hearing the original theme song. My nostalgia is off the charts!”
In addition to the musical nostalgia, the voice acting of the new main trio—Ayane Sakura (Hikaru Shidou), Rumi Okubo (Umi Ryuuzaki), and Rie Takahashi (Fuu Hououji)—was highly praised for capturing the essence of the beloved characters while breathing fresh, modern life into them.
What Lies Ahead?
Produced by E&H production, the new Magic Knight Rayearth series is scheduled to run for two consecutive cours. With a perfect start that beautifully bridges the past and the present, the excitement for Episode 2 is already through the roof. Did the premiere give you goosebumps too?
