A Historic Moment Decades in the Making

After years of near-misses, interrupted confessions, and agonizing romantic tension, fans of Detective Conan (Case Closed) have finally witnessed the moment they have been waiting for. In Episode 1216, Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama officially took the ultimate step in their relationship, sending anime fans into a frenzy of tears and celebration worldwide.

The Sunset Confession in Osaka

In the dramatic conclusion of a three-part serial murder case in Osaka, Heiji aimed to break his curse of failed romance. Inspired by Shinichi Kudo’s famous confession to Ran in front of Big Ben, Heiji resolved to make his move at the Naniwa Harukas observation deck—a location famed for its breathtaking sunset views.

Despite the chaotic murder investigation threatening to derail his plans once again, Heiji stayed true to his feelings. After cracking the case, he brought Kazuha to the deck and finally poured his heart out. The episode ended with a tender moment as the two walked down hand-in-hand, watched over with big smiles by Ran Mouri and Kazuha’s mother.

An Iconic Song for an Iconic Couple

What truly elevated the scene for long-time viewers was the unexpected musical throwback. During the emotional confession, Mai Kuraki’s iconic song “Togetsukyou ~Kimi Omofu~”—the theme song from the 2017 film Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter—played in the background. The nostalgic track paid homage to the long history of the fan-favorite duo, leaving fans deeply moved.

Fan Reactions: “I Feel Like My Own Relatives Got Married!”

Social media erupted immediately following the broadcast, with fans expressing relief and joy for the classic childhood sweethearts. Highlights from fan reactions include:

• “I can’t believe this day has finally come! Do you know how many years we waited for this?!”
• “Finally! No interruptions, no miscommunication. Heiji’s feelings actually reached her!”
• “Watching them walk out holding hands feels like watching family get married. I’m crying tears of joy!”

After a long and winding road of hilarious near-confessions and heroic saves, Osaka’s favorite duo has finally achieved their happy ending. Congratulations to Heiji and Kazuha!
