Legendary Singer Junko Yagami Returns to Space Battleship Yamato After 43 Years with New Music Video!

A Historic Reunion for the Final Chapter of the “Yamato” Saga

Exciting news for anime and classic J-pop fans alike! The music video and ending theme song details have been revealed for Be Forever Yamato: Rebel 3199 Chapter 7: The Rainbow-Colored Samsara, the final chapter of the latest theatrical series. Most notably, legendary singer Junko Yagami is returning to perform the ending theme, titled “Haruka e, Eien e” (To the Faraway, To the Eternal).

This marks a monumental reunion, as Yagami has not performed a theme song for the franchise since her iconic track “Love Supreme” for the 1983 film Final Yamato—exactly 43 years ago!

A Masterpiece Built on Legacy

The new ending theme, “Haruka e, Eien e,” is deeply rooted in the history of the franchise. It is based on “Shin Ginga Tanjo” (The Birth of a New Galaxy), a piece originally composed by the legendary Hiroshi Miyagawa for the 1980 film Be Forever Yamato.

For this new version, his son, Akira Miyagawa, has crafted a grand new arrangement, with lyrics penned by Yohei Matsui. This musical passing of the torch perfectly encapsulates the multi-generational legacy of the Space Battleship Yamato series.

New Character Visuals Revealed

Alongside the music video release, seven stunning new character visuals have been unveiled. Featuring main characters such as Susumu Kodai, Yuki Mori, and Sasha, each visual is set against a vibrant, rainbow-colored background, symbolizing the subtitle of the final chapter, The Rainbow-Colored Samsara.

Heartfelt Comments from the Creators

The artists involved shared their deep emotions regarding this historic release:

  • Junko Yagami (Singer): “I never imagined the day would come when I would sing a Yamato theme song again after more than 40 years. The excitement of recording ‘Love Supreme’ with a live orchestra conducted by Hiroshi Miyagawa back in 1983 is something I will never forget. This new song features unusually low notes for me, but I felt the grand scale of the universe that Akira Miyagawa envisioned.”
  • Akira Miyagawa (Composer/Arranger): “My late father, Hiroshi Miyagawa, was a massive fan of Junko Yagami. With Yohei Matsui and myself setting the stage, this feels less like a new song and more like a long-overdue act of filial piety to my father.”
  • Yohei Matsui (Lyricist): “In Rebel 3199, every character is asked how they want to live. I wrote the lyrics to reflect a journey of people lifting their anchors and traveling across space and time, hoping their light can guide the way for others.”
