Excitement Builds for Magical Explorer with Beautiful Tribute Art!
As the highly anticipated premiere of the TV anime Magical Explorer (fully known as Magical Explorer: Reborn as a Sidekick in a Fantasy Web Novel?) approaches on October 3, 2026, fans have been treated to a special countdown illustration campaign. In its fourth installment, legendary illustrator Akio Watanabe, renowned for his iconic character design and original art for the acclaimed Grisaia franchise, has delivered a stunning support illustration featuring the characters Nanami and Claris!
What is Magical Explorer About?
Based on the popular light novel series written by Irisu and illustrated by Noboru Kannatuki, Magical Explorer began its journey on the novel-publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou, where it racked up over 120 million page views. The print edition has also been a massive hit, surpassing 950,000 copies in circulation as of April 2026.
The story follows a protagonist who reincarnates into his favorite legendary bishoujo game, “Magical Explorer.” However, instead of becoming the cheat-powered main hero surrounded by beautiful girls, he wakes up as Kousuke Takioto—the underappreciated, sidekick-friend character who barely gets any spotlight in the original game. Armed with his extensive knowledge from his previous life and a hidden stat of having “the world’s highest mana capacity,” Kousuke strives to guide the heroines to their happy endings!
